This impressive architectural designed home is situated right on the border of the Pegasus Wetlands. It has a spectacular view on birdlife and beautiful New Zealand nature. The house is contemporary and has stark square and rectangular contrasting, masculine shapes, forms and materials. Colours are mainly white, grey and black, with natural bleached oak floor boards and toughened concrete walls and ceiling. Tall windows and sliders in silver grey aluminium are placed in high studs.

A public walkway passed on two sides of the house, therefore the brief of the owner was to design curtains and blinds to give privacy. Maintaining the views towards lake, nature and birdlife is essential. The industrial materials of the house also needed softer additions for a balanced finish.

We designed ceiling high, soft linen, wide width curtains with soft linings and an organic feel and touch. The deep pleats in the curtains have been developed by us specifically for these type of linens. They give the curtains a voluminous, understated, luxurious and organic look.

The white linen curtains in the living room have a light grey / white wave pattern to reflect the shape of the flax plants outside.

In the master bedroom we have included soft feminine Ombre sheers over the linen curtains to encourage a sense of fluidity and movement at the windows and also to maintain privacy during the day because they can be used independently from the back linen curtains  A palette of romantic pastel duck egg blue and white softens the grey concrete.

The double-story windows and technicality of the staircase design limited our options for window treatments, however we chose beautifully delicate horizontal Thermo-cell blinds in a soft crystal semi transparent white fabric. The same Thermocell blinds have been used at the entry.
